KEY POINTS:
Military personnel who served in the Vietnam War are to be awarded medals in recognition of their service.
The first 26 recipients will be presented with the New Zealand General Service Medal 1992 (Warlike) with Vietnam clasp at Defence House in Wellington on Monday.
They will be handed over by the chief of army Major General Lou Gardiner and chief of air force Air Vice Marshal Graham Lintott.
The Defence Force said more than 3000 New Zealand Vietnam veterans were eligible for the Vietnam medal.
The medal and clasp was also available to the surviving spouse or family of Vietnam veterans who had died.
