A total of 25 Wairarapa athletes will be involved at the national secondary schools track and field championships to be held in Hastings this weekend, with several of them being strong medal winning prospects.
Alex Fafeita could be the best hope for gold in the field events as he will go into the senior boys hammer throw as favourite and should be prominent in the shot put and discus.
On the track, big things will be expected from Stevie Paine in the junior girls 800m and from Gropge Hewitt in all three of his races - 100, 200m and 400m - for athletes with a disability.
