A 32-year-old mechanic has admitted stealing and selling parts from police vehicles he was meant to be maintaining and repairing.
The man, who has interim name suppression, pleaded guilty in Napier District Court yesterday to two charges of theft and one of obtaining by deception.
The court was told that the man stole spare wheels from the boots of police vehicles and replaced them with cheap metal wheels and charged police for fitting parts to other customers' cars.
He was remanded on bail for sentencing in December when police will seek $16,000 reparation.
