Staff at Wellington's Taylor Preston meat company are refusing to back down from their demands for higher pay and better conditions.
Around half the Ngauranga plant's staff are taking part in a three-day picket. It ends tomorrow.
Union spokesman Roger Middlemass said it's time the workers stood up to be counted. He claimed they have not been treated fairly for 15 years.
Mr Middlemass said staff are not after anything radical and even if their demands are met, they will still be the lowest-paid meat workers in the country.
