Meat cleavers used in Christchurch robbery

Christchurch police are on the hunt for two men who held up an Aranui takeaway bar with meat cleavers.

The pair walked into Gin's Takeaways on Hampshire Street, brandishing the weapons around 8.15pm on Saturday night.

One jumped the counter, threatening the family that owns and operates the shop, and made off with hundreds of dollars.

Constable Paul Wilson says it is believed they left the scene in a silver station wagon.

Both men are described as skinny Europeans - one has a more unique description.

"Long black messy, curly hair down to his neck, and he's got a pony tail.

"He was wearing a black beanie, with a black hooded jersey with a zip up the middle, with a grey logo in the centre."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
