Do you prefer manual or automatic?
I still enjoy driving a manual around town; it reminds me of my youth. But I prefer auto on a longer trip; it is easier and more relaxing.
Your dream car?
An Aston Martin DBS Ultimate Edition 6-litre V12. I love the sound of the V12 and it is a classy car.
Who taught you to drive?
My grandfather taught me to drive when I was 14, on his farm in Waimauku. He was a hard man, old school. (My parents couldn't cope with me so sent me to my grandparents to straighten me out.) Then I moved to Waiheke Island to practise on the gravel roads there.
Did you teach your children to drive?
I started to teach my daughter to drive but then I panicked and brought in a real driving instructor for a few lessons. Then I took over for the last few lessons; I used the same model for my son.
Your most memorable road trip?
For my best road trip in New Zealand, each year my business partner in Auto Supershoppes and I travel both islands visiting and getting to know our 80 members around New Zealand. We have a ball. When it comes to my best road overseas, it was travelling through the south of France and into Italy with my wife.
Do you enjoy driving or would you rather be a passenger?
I have to say, the only time I am a passenger is if I have been drinking. Usually I like to drive.
How often do you clean your car?
I wash my car at least twice a week myself.
What do you listen to when driving?
I listen to radio stations and that depends on the time of day and the mood I am in ... normally 1ZB on the way to and from work, Edge in the middle of day, Coast in the evening.
What's a great day trip out of Auckland?
I enjoy going to Omaha to visit friends, to walk on the beach, have lunch and return home all in one day.
Do you judge people by what they drive?
Yes I do judge people by what they drive; but it's more about how they keep their car. Some people never clean it inside or outside.
What irritates you most about other drivers?
People who drive 95km/h in the fast lane annoy me the most.
Who else is allowed to drive your car?
My wife is the only person who drives my Jaguar, but I did let my 21-year-son drive it once, just after I bought it.
