A Nelson man has agreed to be extradited to Norfolk Island to face a charge of murder.
Glenn Peter Charles McNeill, 28, was arrested in Nelson last week and charged with the 2002 murder of 29-year-old Sydney waitress Janelle Patton on Norfolk Island.
In Nelson District Court today, McNeill's solicitor Garry Barkle told Judge David McKegg that McNeill offered no opposition to the extradition.
McNeill also agreed to waive his right to an appeal under S71(b) of the Extradition Act.
Judge McKegg said he was satisfied McNeill was eligible for surrender to Australian authorities under the Act and that the appropriate documents were in order.
He issued a warrant for McNeill's detention.
McNeill, wearing a cream open-neck shirt and slacks during the brief hearing, showed no outward signs of emotion.
He glanced briefly at about 15 members of his family and friends in the public gallery as he was led away handcuffed to a NZ police officer in plain clothes.
After the hearing, Mr Barkle said McNeill would leave for Norfolk Island tomorrow where he was expected to be charged with Miss Patton's murder.
