Black Caps batsmen Craig McMillan and Nathan Astle have both made centuries on the second day of the one-off test against Zimbabwe in Wellington.
The pair set a new fifth wicket record for New Zealand with their 222-run partnership, before McMillan was bowled by Brian Murphy for 142.
The Black Caps are in a strong position courtesy of the twin centurions, going to tea at 372 for the loss of five wickets.
McMillan was first to one hundred after lunch, reaching his fourth test century from 168 deliveries, including 12 fours and one six.
He started the day on 20 – thirty-six runs behind Astle, but overtook his partner in the seventies with some bold hitting.
Astle played a more patient innings, taking more than seven hours and facing 341 balls to reach his sixth test hundred. The century included 11 fours and one six.
The pair took New Zealand from 190 for four at the start of play through to 279 for four at lunch, bringing up their one hundred partnership in the morning session.
McMillan was lucky to survive one big appeal in the morning session.
Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andrew Flower was convinced McMillan had got a bottom edge off the bowling of Bryan Strang, but the umpire did not agree.
