The Martinborough ladies played a L.G.U competition on Wednesday the 29th in fine conditions. In the silver division it was Mariana McDermott in first spot with a nett 75, followed by Kris Chamberlain nett 76 and Bindy McLeod on nett 77.
In the bronze A division Robyn Blackett was in the clubhouse with a nett 72, followed by Bev Tibbs on 75 and Jill Colton on nett 76.
The bronze B division saw Mary Desbonetts with nett 73 followed by Jennie Smith on nett 76 and Laraine Nix nett 80.
The best putters on the day were Ginny Wall with 28 putts, Robyn Blackett with with 29 putts and Sharon Jephson with 30 putts.
The Pukemanu nearest the pin was taken out by Bev Tibbs.
The nine-hole women played a par round and once again it was Anne Parkinson leading the way 3 up followed by Susan Stephens 2 up and Helen Neilson 1 down.
Maureen Thurlow won the nearest to the pin.
The brilliant weather for the Thursday Club couldn't go on forever, nonetheless a hardy group assembled for what actually turned out to be a fine day.
Trevor Hawkins snuck away from work to win the All Teed Up nearest the pin, even if he couldn't finish it off with a two. That honour belonged tom Ash Reed, Craig Colton and Lance Phelps.
The Stableford competition was won by Ash Reed on 41 points, making him the lucky recipient of the Plants R Us ( Greytown) vegetable pack, beating by three points the runners-up, Trevor Hawkins and Lance Phelps, the latter now playing off a one handicap.
On Saturday 25th June a strokeplay competition was played and Peter Bain was in with a nett 65 followed by Bob Goodley nett 66 and Bill Jones and Martin Napier both on nett 68.
Bob Goodley scored two twos and the other two scorer was Roger Parkinson. The competition on Sunday was aborted due to the foul weather.
Saturday 2nd of July's competition was won by Peter Bain nett 68 followed by Lance Phelps,Bill Jones and Derek Stephens all on nett 71Garry Patterson and Lance Phelps had 27 putts.
On Sunday 3rd Bill Jones was in with nett67 followed by Bruce Johns on nett 69.
Bill Jones also scored the only two for the weekend.
The 36 hole stroke-hole competion Gross winner was Lance Phelps and the nett winner was Peter Bain.
On Sunday a group of Welsh rugby supporters turned up at our club and enjoyed a round and a chat in the clubhouse with the locals, I wonder what they talked about !!!
A gentle caution: The flagsticks are new and some care is needed lifting and returning them to the cups. They ocassionally jam and can too aesily pull the cups out as well. This can be very embarrassing to the holder especially if someone has commenced that glorious putt for a two!!
