Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully says progress on the development of Queens Wharf is on track for the Rugby World Cup.
The minister announced today that Michael Barnett, chief executive of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to lead the showcasing programme at the wharf's "cloud" structure.
His work will complement that of Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development Ltd (ATEED) and the NZ2011 Office, which share responsibility for delivering the programme of festival and fanzone events across the whole wharf.
The cloud will hold more than 6,000 people and will be used for exhibitions, events, concerts and festivals, and make up part of the fan zone during Rugby World Cup matches.
The harbour end will be used as a media lounge and for VIP hosting.
"During the Rugby World Cup, Queens Wharf will be a hub of activity for our international visitors and New Zealanders," said Mr McCully.
Mr McCully said the redevelopment of Queens Wharf is on schedule, with the cloud due to be completed by August.
More information about the Queens Wharf showcase, festival and fanzone will be announced over the next few weeks.
