Foreign Minister Murray McCully says there are no reports of New Zealanders being caught up in a terrorist bombing in Turkey's capital, which he described as an "abhorrent attack".
At least 95 people were killed and more than 200 injured after two bomb blasts at a peace rally in Ankara yesterday.
Mr McCully said this afternoon that while official inquiries were ongoing, no New Zealanders had been caught up in the attack.
He condemned the bombings.
"This is an abhorrent attack on innocent people carrying out a peaceful demonstration.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected and our thoughts go out to the families of those who have lost their lives."
Mr McCully said New Zealand had a special relationship with Turkey which was built on shared history "and we stand with the people and Government of Turkey in their fight against terrorism in all its forms".
The event, and the emergency that interrupted it, underline the service's importance.
