Mazda New Zealand is recalling selected Mazda6 equipped with the i-ELOOP energy recovery system.
It involves 907 versions of the 2013/14 Mazda6 GSX and Limited grade models produced before February 2014.
Mazda NZ says that the recall is a "preventive measure only and to date there have been no incidents reported locally".
The company will be writing to owners of the subject vehicles and asking drivers to take their vehicle to their nearest Mazda dealer for corrective action which involves a software update only.
Customers can expect to receive a letter during the week commencing April 22, says Mazda NZ.
