KEY POINTS:
Manawatu mayors are fighting to prevent the Air Force museum at Ohakea being closed.
They are preparing a plan which they hope might keep the museum open with some form of local assistance.
The museum, in which the local community has invested more than $500,000, will close on April 15, and its exhibits will be shipped to the main Air Force museum at Wigram, near Christchurch.
The mayors are upset at a lack of consultation.
An Air Force spokesman said the Ohakea museum area was wanted for No 3 (helicopter) Squadron.
