KEY POINTS:
Want to live like Auckland's Mayor and Mayoress? Well, now you can. If you have a spare $3 million to spend, that is.
Empty-nesters Dick and Diana Hubbard are packing up and moving on. They have put their sprawling family residence in the exclusive leafy suburb of Epsom on the market.
The Hubbards bought the property in 1998 for $1.8 million, according to Quotable Value, and it is understood that they are hoping for offers of about $3 million.
An open home was held yesterday - but potential buyers had no idea of the home's powerful owners.
The property at 42 Owens Rd has all the mod cons: four bedrooms with ensuites, air conditioning (in the master bedroom only), triple-car garaging, security and central vacuum systems, gas hobs, granite kitchen, sauna - with a small bar and fridge right alongside - and an indoor spa "to cosy up with special friends", according to the Bayley's real estate agency's website.
The decor includes old-fashioned peach curtains; wicker furniture with chintz cushions; oil paintings of reclining Polynesian women, topless; and 70s-style chandeliers.
The Hubbards also own a luxurious holiday home in Queenstown, valued at $950,000.
