Carterton Mayor Ron Mark will likely soon have a mayoral vehicle.
Mr Mark, who is in his second term as mayor, asked for a mayoral vehicle at a Carterton District Council meeting on Wednesday. He said during a lunch break before making his request he had used his own vehicle throughout his first term and had not billed council, which was his right under Remuneration Authority rules.
The rules also allowed for Mr Mark's salary to not be reduced if a mayoral vehicle was used only for council business.
He said he had been stranded at his rural Carterton home when his partner's car had broken down and a council pool car had been unavailable.
He also said his vehicle, a Ford Ranger, was being serviced and repaired at the time of the council meeting.
