KEY POINTS:
Family members have been to visit Manukau Mayor Len Brown as he recovers from heart bypass surgery.
Mr Brown, 51, was admitted to Auckland Hospital after collapsing on stage at the Pacific Music Awards on Saturday following a heart attack.
A Manukau City Council spokeswoman said Mr Brown was in a critical but stable condition but was making good progress.
She said Mr Brown's family had been with him in hospital but general visitors would not be allowed access.
Mayoress Shirley Anne (Shan) Inglis said yesterday she believed the heart attack had been life threatening but that Mr Brown was firmly on the road to recovery.
Deputy Mayor Gary Troup is the acting mayor.
