KEY POINTS:
North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams is recuperating at home after collapsing at a Navy function on Friday.
Mr Williams said he had been unwell with diarrhoea after returning from a sister-city visit to Qingdao in China when he passed out at the Devonport Naval Base. An ambulance took him to North Shore Hospital.
Mr Williams, 49, said he was given a sternum rub to bring him around and intravenous fluids to rehydrate.
Asked about a report that he had a run-in with ambulance staff, the mayor said he had spoken to St John Ambulance about his behaviour and been told it was normal for people being brought around to be confused.
He said he would assess his health tomorrow before resuming mayoral duties.
