KEY POINTS:
Manukau mayor Len Brown will return to work on Monday, several months after suffering a major heart attack.
Mr Brown has been given the all-clear by doctors to return to work, but initially on reduced hours - about five hours a day.
In June, Manukau City Council granted Mr Brown six months leave of absence after his heart attack and surgery.
Deputy mayor Gary Troup has been acting mayor while Mr Brown has been away.
Mr Troup said he was extremely pleased to welcome the mayor back.
He said councillors and staff would provide whatever support Mr Brown needed.
"We will be watching to make sure Len is not taking on too many duties, too quickly."
Mr Brown suffered a heart attack at the Pacific Music Awards on May 31 and underwent surgery at Auckland Hospital three days later.
Complications later, arose requiring further surgery.
