Supermayor candidate Len Brown says he expects personal attacks during the election campaign.
Brown made the comments after being cleared over a complaint about a Manukau City Council contract.
Five councillors complained after Brown voted against the recommendation of council officers and the tenders panel over a $170,000 contract to run a community centre in Mangere. The contract was awarded to a trust run by a former Manukau councillor.
The auditor-general rejected the complaint.
"The only reason why this process has been called into question, for my view, is because it's election year, and it's an opportunity to have a crack at me," said Brown.
He said he expected more attacks over the coming months.
