Manukau Mayor Len Brown tempted fate last night by returning to the very stage on which he nearly died last year.
Organisers of the Pacific Music Awards will never forget the event last year where Brown collapsed on stage, suffering from a potentially fatal heart attack. He underwent heart bypass surgery and spent three months off work.
Last night, Brown couldn't have been in higher spirits as he joined boxer David Tua and rapper Scribe to honour the success of Pacific Island music.
Nesian Mystik and Ladi6 were the big winners of the night.
The awards chairman, the Reverend Mua Strickson-Pua, said that during these hard economic times, it was great to be able to celebrate something as uplifting and positive as Pacific music.
