Auckland Mayor Len Brown has ordered an update of the city's register of earthquake-prone commercial buildings and its quick release to the public.
This follows a Weekend Herald report revealing the Auckland Council refused to identify 412 unreinforced buildings deemed likely to collapse in a moderate earthquake.
Mr Brown said yesterday the register compiled by the former Auckland City Council, was out of date because council staff had worked with the buildings' owners to fix them up.
"I have ordered this list to be updated with the work that has been completed and will release the list as quickly as possible."
The buildings were among 2760 city commercial buildings erected before 1976 when earthquake structural standards were tightened.
