Newton is also accused of stealing three pies valued at $10 from the same petrol station.
Police opposed bail for the pair.
Police say the defendants were pursued from Papamoa to Maungatapu yesterday travelling in a Subaru Legacy stolen from an Auckland address.
Officers cordoned off an area of Maungatapu and with the help of a police dog handler from Rotorua the defendants were tracked and located and arrested, police further alleged.
Newton and Ngaro, who are yet to enter pleas to the charges, were both remanded in custody.
Ngaro, who did not seek bail, was remanded to appear in the Auckland District Court on August 5 in relation to these alleged offences and four unrelated active charges.
Newton was refused bail by Judge Peter Rollo who said he found just cause for her continued detention, citing a concern she may offend while on bail and/or fail to turn up to court.
Newton was remanded to appear in the Manukau District Court on August 6 when she will also face a raft of unrelated charges.
