More than 400 students from colleges and schools across Wairarapa came together at Wairarapa College for the "Matharapa" competitions yesterday.
Organiser Leigh Kube said the competition enjoys strong support from the schools, who field multiple teams of three from Year 5 to Year 10.
"Some schools send four teams," he said.
Students competed for three rounds, in individual, team, and team puzzle-solving.
Notable among the wins was Kuranui College, who took firsts in the Year 9 and Year 10 levels.
Kuranui College principal Geoff Shepherd said it was a first for Kuranui College "and a credit to the hard work by Head of Mathematics Mr Albert Chand and his students.
"There is real enthusiasm for mathematics at the college at the moment and events like this provide students with something to aim for and gives them a great sense of achievement."
