Fundraising efforts for the construction of an all-weather athletics track at the Pugh Sportsbowl in Masterton have been given a further boost.
The eight-lane track is expected to cost in the region of $800,000 and news yesterday that $20,000 had been received from the Lion Foundation brought the funds promised or to hand to $573,000.
Wairarapa Regional All-Weather Track Trust trustee Mark Harris said the latest grant was another step towards the track becoming a reality and there was hope that a few more funding agencies would give their support within a week or two.
Intentions are for construction work to start next summer and Harris is "very optimistic" that will be the case.
The track will be built to international (IAAF) specifications and will probably take between 12 and 16 weeks to construct.
