Masterton won the Wairarapa regional one tennis title for the fourth successive year when they edged out Martinborough 5-4 at the Masterton Tennis Centre on Saturday.
It was their men who paved the way for the Masterton win with Mike Jackson, Steve Hurley and George Tatham all winning their singles matches.Only loss was suffered by Geoff McKay at the hands of Marco de Groot.
Martinborough won both the women's singles through Rhona Lovell and Carla Didsbury who beat Ashleigh Gane and Karen Wilton respectively, and they also won the women's doubles, but both men's doubles went to Masterton, Hurley successfully combining with McKay and Jackson with Tatham.
The scores were level at 4-4 with Jackson and Tatham doing battle with de Groot and Kevin Hurunui and the Masterton duo won that crucial match in straight sets.
Masterton's victory was especially notable for Hurley and McKay both of whom have been part of their winning teams throughout the last four seasons.
