A man who allegedly stabbed a family member with a butcher's knife over the weekend has been arrested.
Sergeant Jennifer Nelley said a 49-year-old Masterton man had been charged with possessing a weapon, assault with a weapon, threatening to kill and other threatening acts after he attacked a member of his family in the early hours of Saturday morning in Solway.
The man had confronted several members of his family with a knife and challenged them to fight him at about 1.30am, Mrs Nelley said. When the family fled the house, the man pursued and cut one of them. The victim suffered an 8cm long cut to their forearm and a suspected fractured wrist and was taken to Wairarapa Hospital by ambulance.
Police were called but were unable to locate the alleged offender. The man then returned to the house at about 6am, when he again challenged family members to a fight and stabbed holes in the wall before being arrested by police.
The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Masterton District Court on October 22.
