It was a case of giving back for Masterton children's author Michelle O'Connell who donned a WWI costume to read at her son's former kindergarten.
Mrs O'Connell shared her book, Leaving for the Front, with children from Masterton Early Learning Centre at Hedleys Bookshop yesterday.
The pictorial book was based
around last year's re-enactment in Masterton of troops marching from the Town Hall to the Perry St railway station, based on the viewpoint of her son, Christopher, who is now 7.
The book launched in April, but Mrs O'Connell said she had alway wanted to do something for her son's centre.
"It felt special to bring kids into a book store," she said.
