An open brief for the 2014 Wairarapa Camera Club exhibition Hidden Faces: Hidden Gems has won praise for helping create an exciting and diverse show in Masterton.
Aratoi Museum spokesman Adam West-Watson said the biennial exhibition, which runs at the Wesley Wing until September 21, was this year comprised of close to 50 framed photographs embracing a broad range of subjects from city street life and buskers to candid portraits, waterfalls, storms and landscapes.
"The president of the club [Tim McMahon] said at the opening that club members had risen to the occasion and I agree with the sentiment that the open brief they were given seemed to bring out more creativity and excitement," said Mr West-Watson.
The latest few club exhibitions had explored coastal and environmental themes, according to exhibition literature, although "over the last few years an emphasis of the club has been on impactful story-telling using the media and techniques of photography".
"In the images chosen for this year's exhibition, the photographers communicate personal stories of beauty, foreboding, reminiscence, joy and despair."
