Godfrey Ball, a former scoutmaster who was facing sex abuse charges against boys, has been found dead at home.
The Masterton man was facing 12 representative charges including indecent assault and doing an indecent act between 1964 and 1985, against victims aged between 7 and 16.
Ball, 78, was found dead last Thursday. Police say there were no suspicious circumstances.
He had appeared in Masterton District Court in July and had been given until September 17 to enter a plea.
Ball faced five indecent act charges, two counts of indecent assault and one charge of sodomy against a boy aged 12-16.
He also faced charges of an indecent act and indecently assaulting another boy aged 12-16 and one of indecent assault against a 7-year-old boy.
Detective Sergeant Bill van Woerkom of the Masterton police child protection team said people had come forward with more information since Ball was charged.
