There are three parts to the competition: dressage, cones, and marathon.
The dressage section is made up of an abbreviated Dressage Test consisting of 10 movements in a reduced-size Dressage Arena.
The cones section consists of a Cone Course which drivers have to lead their carts through.
And the marathon section, which speaks for itself, is a drive 12 to 13km long.
The competition stretches over local farms as there isn't enough room for the marathon at Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre.
It's free for people to come, watch and take photos of, but dogs are strictly prohibited since they will be on private farm land for some of the time, Mr MacFarlane said.
The best photo opportunity for people is on the Saturday as all activities are happening in a confined area.
"On the Sunday we'll be going for a 12-13km ride so it'll be more difficult to take photos when we're moving a lot," he said.
The Saturday competition is set to begin at 9am, and the Sunday ride at 8.30am so both days it can be finished by noon.
The Wairarapa Shafts and Wheels Driving Association has been around for over 20 years.
Mr MacFarlane said: "It has provided many top level drivers over the years."
The club goes out on many social drives in which members go for a drive of up to 15km before finishing with a picnic lunch.
