Because the toilets at Riversdale Beach cannot be repaired to meet earthquake standards they are to be demolished and the council has allowed $250,000 from depreciation funds for their replacement.
The plan is to work with Riversdale Surf Life Saving Club to link the public toilets with the surf club's building.
An unspecified "small amount" has been added to the council's budget for Anzac Day celebrations to recognise this year as being the centenary of the outbreak of World War I.
Improvements will also be made to an Anzac room in the Tinui Hall and the council will be involved with commemorative activities being planned to mark the 100-year milestone.
The council has set aside $10,000 from its community development grants fund to review the Wairarapa Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy, with a pro-rata contribution from Carterton District Council and South Wairarapa District Council.
Several smaller expenditures that had not been included in the long term plan have now been included in the draft annual plan for this year.
Power cables will be replaced with underground power at the Clarke Memorial Domain, in Mauriceville, at an estimated cost of $20,000, extensions to Panama Village and building new gardens there is expected to cost $10,000 and a road extension at Hood Aerodrome to allow better access to hangars is also budgeted at $10,000.
Wairarapa Softball Association has asked for an irrigation system to be installed at South Park and the council has included $6000 for that work to be done, and $12,000 for rubbish bins at Riversdale Beach.
It is proposed to add grind rails to the skate park at a cost of $3000.
On the local body amalgamation front, the council has confirmed a proposal, which will see either the establishment of a Wairarapa Unitary Authority or a merger with councils over the wider Wellington region, will be received from the Local Government Commission in June.
There could be a residents' poll before the future local body structure for Wairarapa is finalised.
