Masterton plan to "creep under the radar" when the national finals of Bowls New Zealand's men's inter-club competition are played at the Howick club in Auckland tomorrow and Friday.
Manager Warren Wyeth says his side are taking the same attitude into this assignment as they did when they scored an upset victory in the zone-three playoffs against the top clubs from the Hawkes Bay, Manawatu and Gisborne-East Coast regions.
"We were probably the rank outsiders then and managed to pull it off and we'd like to think we can creep under the radar again," Wyeth said.
Wyeth said Masterton were also taking heart from the fact that the last time they made it to the national finals, in Rotorua in 1999, they ended up second.
"Nobody expected us to do well there either but we gave it a hell of a shake, if you get on a roll anything can happen."
