Masterton scored a convincing 6-3 away win over Opaki when matches in the Wairarapa Tennis Association's regional one competition got under way on Saturday.
It was in the men's section where Masterton clearly got the upper hand. Luke Atkinson, Chad Parsons and Matt Bunny all registered singles wins while Bunny and George Passi and Atkinson and Parsons combined to win their doubles as well.
Opaki picked up just the one win in the men's section through John McNab in the singles but they fared better in the women's section where Katie Wyeth beat the promising Georgia Atkinson in straight sets in their singles and then combined with Charlotte Mossman for a doubles victory. The other women's singles saw Zoe Paris (Masterton) beat Mossman.
Scores (Masterton names first):
Men's singles: Luke Atkinson beat Stu Wyeth 6-4, 6-3; Chad Parsons beat Brett Dymond 6-4, 6-3; Matt Bunny beat Chris Davidson 6-4, 7-6; George Passi lost to John McNab 1-6, 1-6.
