An attempt by Masterton mayor Lyn Patterson to attend last weekend's Super Rugby match incognito almost worked, but her trademark smile gave her away.
An unnamed cameraman snapped Mrs Patterson enjoying bottled water while surrounded by empty Tui cans at the Hurricanes v Blues warm-up match at Memorial Park.
She was decked out in red and green, the colours of Wairarapa-Bush rugby, and was sporting a gold wig in a style quite distinctly different from her normal hairstyle.
Mrs Patterson said it is her husband Phil who is the more devoted rugby follower, but she nevertheless enjoys the game and is an ardent supporter of the Hurricanes and Wairarapa-Bush.
She was therefore delighted with the Hurricanes success, albeit in a non-competition match, and having a somewhat limited red and green wardrobe is contemplating " hitting up" Wairarapa-Bush chief Tony Hargood for some official clothing to be better seen at the rugby, without the wig.
