The Masterton Div 1 Interclub team easily retained its place in the top division of Wellington men's Interclub when they comfortably beat Wainui, the top Div 2 side, in the promotion relegation match at Shandon last Saturday.
Playing in the 36 hole format with five foursomes matches in the morning, followed by 10 singles in the afternoon, Masterton was well placed at lunch with a lead of 5-0.
Needing only three points in the singles Masterton quickly cemented its dominance with excellent wins to team No1 Sam Forrester (6/5), Jason van Zanten, Owen Lloyd, Simon Buckley and Joel Macklin, while Wade Walker halved his match to finish with a resounding 10-4 win.
Congratulations to the whole team.
Last Thursday the Masterton 9 holers hosted the 9 hole interclub competition, with 12 ladies from Paraparaumu, Kapiti, and Ohariu Valley clubs. Masterton's Di Herbert and Geri Southey won their matches, but Kapiti were the overall winners.
Everyone enjoyed their day, the sun shone and there were plenty of Masterton helpers.
Also last Thursday the men played in the New World Stableford competition. Tweet Bird won the day with 41 points, on the cut from Sam Forrester who had an excellent round of 66.
Other prize winners were Goff Moorcock, Alan Sadler, Simon Buckley and Alan Kirkham. Sam Forrester also won the birdsnest with two 2's. The All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was awarded to Bill Sangster.
On Saturday the men played a stableford round while the women had a par round. Edith Clarkson made no race of it in the women's competition with a par score of -7.

The Graeme Jones Car Rental Nearest the Pin on No8 was won by Isobelle Weaver and the New World Nearest the Pin on No18 went to Lorraine Stewart.

Next weekend sees the second to last round of the men's 18 hole interclub with Div 3 playing Otaki at Otaki, Div 7 against Mornington at Masterton and Div 11 playing Titahi Bay, also at home.
The Saturday 9 hole competition will take place with tee off at 2pm.
The men's club day will be on Sunday with the competition a stableford round for the Granddad's Trophy.
Off The Fairway
This Friday is the last day for long-serving green keeper, Alan Pool. After 22 years of faithful service to the club Alan is retiring to spend more time sleeping in, playing golf and enjoying all the pleasures you can't have when you are sitting on a tractor all day.
