Police are investigating a suspicious house fire which broke out in Cole St, Masterton, about 2.30pm today.
A man was asleep in the house at the time but managed to escape.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller said they are looking to speak to a person who is associated with the house.
At least two rooms were damaged and fire services were expected to be on site for at least another hour and a half.
Nobody was injured, but firefighters gave oxygen to a cat which was rescued from the house.
