Five Masterton players were part of the New Zealand petanque team that dominated a transtasman international against Australia in Melbourne last week.
The Kiwis retained the open and senior trophies, the seniors having established an unbeatable lead with one round of games still to be played and the open team claiming victory through a clean sweep in that last round.
The selection of Barb Johnston, Claire Wilson, Joan Miller, Graeme Morris and Ralph Priddle gave Masterton the biggest representation of any club in the 24-strong New Zealand team.
Johnston and Wilson played in the open women's section, Miller in the senior women's section and Priddle and Morris in the senior men's division.
Johnston, Wilson, Miller and Morris were experiencing their second successive win in the transtasman series, having being part of New Zealand's winning combination in Auckland last year.
