The strength of the Masterton Petanque Club is evidenced by the naming of five of their players in the New Zealand team to play in the transtasman international against Australia in Melbourne on May 21 and 22.
The selection of Barb Johnston, Claire Wilson, Joan Miller, Graeme Morris and Ralph Priddle gives Masterton the biggest representation of any club in the 24-strong New Zealand squad, eclipsing Auckland's Herne Bay, which is recognised as the country's top club.
Johnston and Wilson will be part of the open women's line-up, Miller the senior women's team and Morris and Priddle the senior men's team.
Four of the Masterton players - Johnston, Wilson, Miller and Morris - were in the New Zealand team which defeated Australia in Auckland last year, while Priddle has represented his country before but was overlooked in last year's team.
