Masterton fire station officer Mike Cornford said it was going to be an "interesting" summer as his team endured a second serious scrub fire on Monday.
Two fire appliances from Masterton were called to the Bluff-Rangitumau Rd shortly before 6pm to tackle a 60m road fence-line blaze in tall stands of toitoi.
The crews were backed up by the Maurceville Rural Fire Force and the water tanker from Carterton Fire Brigade.
The blaze was contained within 20 minutes, with fire crews using retardant to envelop the smouldering stands of toitoi.
Mr Cornford joked the Times-Age appeared to be busier than them, following the paper's coverage of a paddock fire near Carterton earlier that day that had threatened farm houses.
