Masterton firefighters were called to douse a double mattress found burning on a stretch of footpath in River Rd yesterday.
Fire communications supervisor David Meikle said the burning mattress was reported soon after 10am and had been extinguished in minutes.
Workers from Earthcare Environmental removed the charred mattress from the street once firefighters had doused it.
