A woman was cut unscathed from a car that was on its side in a roadside paddock after a collision with another vehicle on SH2 near Masterton yesterday afternoon.
Masterton Fire Service station officer Doug Flowerday said he and a Masterton crew had just returned from road crash rescue training in Trentham when the call was fielded about the crash about 4.30pm yesterday.
He said firefighters removed the roof of the prone vehicle to free the middle-aged woman, who then walked from the wreckage unaided to a waiting ambulance. About 10m of fencing was toppled in the crash and debris was strewn down the roadside.
"She was trapped but there were no serious injuries. It was quite ironic because this crew's been training down in Trentham in motor vehicle crashes all day and just got back, and we put a few little techniques we just learned into practice."
Masterton traffic Sergeant Chris Megaw said officers would complete an examination of the crash scene at the corner of SH2 and East Taratahi Rd, down which traffic was detoured, and the cause of the two-car crash would be established.
