A TEMPERATURE high for Masterton, a near low for Castlepoint, and wind and rain events were some of the Wairarapa highlights in the Niwa climate summary for June.
Masterton recorded its highest minimum June temperature on June 20, when the temperature never dropped below 13.8C. Castlepoint recorded its equal fourth lowest temperature on June 22, of 7C.
Wind wise, motorists were asked to take extra care over the Rimutaka Hill Rd on June 9-11 and June 18-19, and at Mt Bruce on June 19.
On June 14 and 15, waves slammed into the South Wairarapa Coast, trapping people in their car at Cape Palliser.
The heavy rain which caused flooding and a state of emergency in Wanganuui on June 20 and 21, closed State Highway 53 at Waihenga Bridge, SH3 at the Manawatu Gorge, and the Pahiatua Track.
