Newly appointed Masterton District Council chief executive Pim Borren is to have an executive assistant with the salary for the position expected to be met from existing corporate budgets.
This financial year which ends on June 30 will show savings in the corporate area of around $75,000 which the council'sfinance manager David Paris and his management team are asking council to carry forward and use for extra corporate resources.
Their request is based on the belief developing a quality long-term plan will put pressure on an area where only "modest budgets" have been allowed for extra resourcing to cover a variety of needs including administrative support for the chief executive.
That support is needed according to the finance department in order to "achieve the greatest productivity".
Applications for the newly created position close on June 23 and the position is initially being offered as a two-year fixed-term contract.
Once filled it will be the first time a dedicated executive assistant to the chief executive has been employed by the council.
Mayor Lyn Patterson has a personal assistant and in South Wairarapa the mayor Adrienne Staples and chief executive Paul Crimp share an executive assistant.
Carterton District Council does not employ an executive assistant for either the chief executive or the mayor.
