For the third successive year Masterton Intermediate have won the Super Sport boys softball tournament banner.
This tourney has been in operation since 1994 and involves intermediate schools from Horowhenua, Manawatu, Wanganui and Wairarapa.
An interesting feature of the 2010 Masterton Intermediate line-up is that six of the players are former pupils of Douglas Park Primary School and also that six play for the Giants under-13 squad who have been performing with considerable credit in their Hutt Valley Saturday morning competition this season.
With a large contingent of parents and some grandparents in their support crew, the Masterton Intermediate team outbatted and outfielded their opposition in their latest victory with deputy principal and softball enthusiast Russell Thompson saying teamwork was the main key to their success.
In pool play they beat St Peter's (Palmerston North) 22-0, Palmerston North Intermediate Normal 19-2 and Wanganui Intermediate 11-1 to set up a final against Monrad Intermediate of Palmerston North, which they won 13-7.
The team's pitchers were Levi Harmon and Jacob Kuresa, with Keiran Robinson catcher, Emma Kruszona first base, Adam Le Grice second base and captain Stirling Paku third base. Short stop was Michael Brewster and outfielders were Tama Hurihanganui, Reno Pourau, Tane McDermott and Caine Osborne.
