Masterton Park Bowling Club have come up with a novel way of kicking off efforts to find the $90,000 required to returf their all-weather green at Queen Elizabeth Park.
They have planned an open day for Saturday, May 7, the highlight of which will be a bowls challenge. The winner will earn themselves $500.
Organiser Roger Hoar said the event would be played over two rinks between 11am to 4pm, with participants aiming to land bowls supplied by the club fully in a small circle at the end of each rink. The cost is $1 per bowl.
Those who are successful will go into the bowl-off, with the closest to the centre of the circle taking the winner's cheque.
Non-registered bowlers will be granted a free winter membership for the Masterton Park club, something Hoar hopes will lead to a good muster of newcomers.
