A runway light caught fire at Masterton Airport just after 2am on Saturday, forcing firefighters out of bed.
Fire communications supervisor Mike Wanoa said it was an unusual and rare event. "No idea how it happened but it was on fire alright."
One truck attended the scene and the fire was put out within 15 minutes by a fire extinguisher.
