Ace Masterton outdoor bowler Ian Monaghan won his 40th centre title, and eighth gold star, when he took out the Bowls Wairarapa champion of champions men's singles last weekend.
Monaghan met experienced Masterton Park player Paddy Paku in the decider after semifinals that saw Monaghan beat Bev Entwhistle (South End) and Paku account for Tony Lee (Martinborough).
The final produced some good draw bowls from both players, with Monaghan eventually prevailing 21-13.
Makaia Campbell, of Eketahuna, won her 11th centre title by beating Tina Hogg of Masterton Park in the final of the champion of champions women's singles.
John Mahupuku, of Masterton Park, earned his first gold star (five centre titles) when he combined with Peter Ahkit to win the champion of champion's men's pairs, while the women's title went to Eketahuna duo Avis Cooper and Karyn Burling.
The regional champion of champion play-offs for singles and pairs will be staged in Palmerston North later this month.
