The need to stay composed and work as a team was stressed to the Gardner Electrical Masterton squad before they took to the field for their Capital third division football match with Waterside Karori Barcodes at Hullena Park on Saturday and they responded to the call with a deserved 3-2 success.
"We had been tending to lose our structure in games, especially if we got behind early on, and we were keen to put that right," spokesman Doug Gardner said.
The new resolve was tested when WKB did take a 1-0 lead but Masterton hit back with a goal to striker Joel Macklin.
It was still 1-1 at halftime with Masterton going ahead 2-1 through a Chris Kirkham goal, WKB levelling again at 2-2 and then Kirkham and Macklin combining for a second Macklin goal to give Masterton the win.
Player of the match for Masterton was the hard-working Arnon Tapp.
