KEY POINTS:
The Farmers Santa parade is being held in Auckland at two o'clock this afternoon.
Many families are already lining the parade route and despite the scorching weather they are not moving.
Shirley Savage is waiting for Santa's arrival with her six-year-old niece Louise and three-year-old nephew Luke. She says it is the first time she has been since she herself was a child and the weather is just as she remembers it from when she was small.
The Schnauer family has also set up early, a move dad Andrew says is a strategic one. He says they have a great spot at the beginning of the route and easy access to the car when it is all over. He says they normally go to the Takapuna parade for Santa, but after what he says are some disappointing parades there, they are trying Auckland for a change.
Organisers expect up to a quarter of a million spectators will line the streets for the event.
Yesterday the jolly gent clad in red received an enthusiastic welcome from Southlanders in the 10th anniversary Southland Santa Parade in Invercargill.
Thousands of people young and old lined the city streets for the hour long parade. Organisers say there were over 90 floats and displays entered.
The parade was lead away by another cheery big fellow: Mayor Tim Shadbolt, riding in an open top sports car. And just ahead of Santa was a group of Harley riders, in the south for this weekend's Burt Munro Challenge motorcycling event.
