KEY POINTS:
Massey University has signed an agreement with Singapore to offer its food technology papers to top Singapore Polytechnic students.
The agreement, signed last Wednesday, would allow Singapore Polytechnic's top students to complete the final two years of a Bachelor in Food Technology through Massey University papers offered at the polytechnic.
The aim of the programme was to allow Singaporean students to undertake top degree programmes of study without leaving Singapore.
The offshore campus is the first for Massey University.
Head of the Institute of Food Nutrition and Human Health Professor Richard Archer said tuition would be provided by Massey staff visiting the Singapore campus and by teleconference.
The first 30 students would start in August, with the possibility of increases to 40 students in each of the next two years, he said.
All students would complete the polytechnic's three-year diploma in food.
Singaporean Senior Minister of State and Minister of Education, Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew said the collaboration was a strategic and timely move given the value of the food and beverage industry in Singapore reaching $SG17.6 billion (NZ16.6 billion).
The tie-up was part of the Singaporean government-backed Polytechnic-Foreign Specialised Institution collaboration framework, he said.
